{Audrey} Trying to overcome my fear of colors

Ever since I was a child, I have never been very fond of colorful clothes with prints or bold patterns. Why? I can’t really tell. I just don’t dig it all too much. I’m that kind of girl who will never feel very safe without having a lot of black, grey and white clothes in my closet. I personally love those safe colors because I just don’t like to be the center of attention anyway. It’s a personal style I have come to own over the years and it represents me pretty well. But as time passes by, you kinda want to mix things up a little bit and try new stuff, even if it scares you or challenges you. And that’s what happened to me over the last year. I was thinking that maybe I was missing out on some things just because of my fear of colors. That maybe a floral print wouldn’t look so bad on me or that trying a bright color could actually bring out my eyes or compliment my skin.

Going from there, I tried to come up with a good compromise because there was no way I would totally give up my whole style just to wear bright colors all day every day. It was just not happening for me. So what I decided to do was to give the prints a chance only if there was still black involved in the clothing. I basically wanted to mix the two together so I wouldn’t completely leave my comfort zone. With this idea in mind, I ended up buying this great spring dress from Suzy Shier.

The result was stunning when I looked at myself in the mirror for the first time. I never thought that it would fit me so well and that I could deal with a print like that without wanting to run away. The print in itself is very delicate and not too wild, which has directly drawn me to choose this dress over anything else. I have yet to find the right occasion to wear it since the winter is still very much a part of our lives right now but I’m really excited to show it off this spring. I’m proud of this purchase and I think it has definitely put me in a good place with prints and colors. I don’t think I’ll wear bright yellow and crazy patterns anytime soon but I’m slowly warming up to the idea of having more colors and prints in my closet.

If you are not too adventurous like me, I suggest you do just the same as I did. Start with something delicate and not too bold that will challenge you a little bit but not enough to make you feel awkward about it. Also, try to favor colors that you wouldn’t usually pick but that you still think could add something good to your overall look. Finally, don’t feel bad if what you choose is not extremely wild or edgy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The most important thing is that you feel like you stepped out enough of you comfort zone to try something new. If you have achieved that, you can be proud of yourself! Maybe this will be the start of a great relationship with colors, prints and patterns!
